The server uses about 99 MB when empty, so the smallest 2 GB plan has a lot of headroom. Memory grows with players and with the size of your Workshop collection, so check Usage while people are playing.
Our free Game Server RAM Guide shows the memory a Garry's Mod server used in our own measurement.
Check your own usage
Open your server's Overview page and look at Usage, then the RAM tab, while players are online. An empty server tells you little, so read it with players on. See How to read your server's usage graphs.
Tips for a healthier server
- Keep Tickrate at the default of 22 unless you have a reason to change it, since higher values use more CPU and can make a full server lag.
- Keep Lua Refresh off on a busy live server.
- Large Workshop collections slow the first join for players. Remove addons you do not use.
Change plan
If memory keeps reaching your plan's limit while players are on, move to a bigger plan. See How to change your plan or billing cycle.
