How to add mods to your Conan Exiles server

Conan ExilesUpdated Oct 5, 20263 min read

Conan Exiles takes Steam Workshop mods, such as maps, items, building pieces and gameplay changes, which the server downloads for you when it starts.

Back up first. See How to back up and restore your Conan Exiles world.

Add a mod

  1. Find the mod on the Steam Workshop and copy the number after id= in its page address. Only use mods that their authors have updated for Conan Exiles Enhanced.
  2. Add the number in the Workshop tab of your server, or type it in Steam Workshop Mods under Settings, then Game Settings. Both edit the same list. For several mods, separate the numbers with commas and nothing else.
  3. Restart the server. At every start it downloads each listed mod and rebuilds the load order.
  4. Make sure every player subscribes to the same mods in their own game before joining.
  5. To go back to an unmodded server, empty the Steam Workshop Mods box and restart. A mod that added items, buildings or a map can leave characters or bases unable to load, so download a backup of the world .db file first and remove one mod at a time.

Where files go

Open Files and use these places:

  • ConanSandbox/Mods (the mod list file here is rebuilt at every start, do not edit it by hand)

Players need the same mods

Everyone who joins needs the same mods and versions as the server.

Check it worked

After the restart, read the Console tab, which prints the final mod list while the server starts. See How to add mods, plugins and modpacks.

If the server stops after you add a mod, remove the newest mod or restore your backup. See How to fix a server that will not start.
