You can bring a Barotrauma world you already have, from your own computer or another host, to your PlayNHost server.
Back up first. Uploading a world with the same name as the one on the server replaces it. Create a backup of the current world (see How to create, download and restore backups), stop the server, and keep your own original files until the server loads the new world.
Upload and load your world
- Stop the server and make a panel backup first (Backups, then Start backup). A file with the same name as an existing campaign replaces it, and that campaign's progress is lost.
- Find your save on your PC. Only multiplayer campaign saves can be used here, and a single-player campaign save is not loaded. On Windows the multiplayer saves are in the Multiplayer folder at AppData\Local\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\Barotrauma\Multiplayer. You can also copy the files from another dedicated server.
- In Files, open .local/share/Daedalic Entertainment GmbH/Barotrauma/Multiplayer. The folder .local starts with a dot, so it sits near the top of the list, or use the Files search box. If it is not there yet, start the server once, then stop it. If you still cannot find it, open a support ticket.
- Upload your .save file and its matching _CharacterData.xml file there. Both must have the same base name, and a .save file without its character data file will lose your characters.
- If you do not have admin rights yet, ask support to grant your first admin. You need admin permissions to load a campaign.
- Start the server and join it with your admin account.
- In the lobby, choose the campaign game mode and pick your uploaded save from the list of saved campaigns instead of starting a new one.
Large files are best uploaded with SFTP. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP and How to upload, edit and manage your server files.
Start a fresh world
Starting fresh can permanently remove the current world. Back it up first.
- Make a panel backup of the server first, which includes both files of the current campaign (.save and _CharacterData.xml).
- Stop the server.
- Delete that campaign's .save and _CharacterData.xml files from the Multiplayer saves folder (.local/share/Daedalic Entertainment GmbH/Barotrauma/Multiplayer in Files). This removes the campaign's progress and its characters for good, apart from your backup.
- Start the server, join as an admin and start a new campaign from the lobby.
