An open.mp server needs very little memory on its own: a new PlayNHost open.mp server running the stock Gun Game gamemode with nobody online used about 46.5 MiB in PlayNHost's check on 15 September 2026. What decides your real need is your gamemode and its plugins, so read your own server's memory with players online.
What did PlayNHost measure?
When open.mp was added to PlayNHost, a new server was installed and started with open.mp 1.5.8 (the newest release then), the release's default config.json and the Gun Game gamemode. With nobody online it used about 46.5 MiB of memory. That is the floor, not a target: it shows that open.mp itself is light.
What makes an open.mp server use more?
- The gamemode. A large roleplay or freeroam gamemode with houses, vehicles, businesses and accounts keeps far more in memory than an example gamemode.
- Objects and the streamer. Custom maps with thousands of objects, usually loaded through the streamer plugin, all stay in memory while the server runs.
- Plugins. MySQL, Discord and other plugins each add their own memory.
- Players and NPCs. Each connected player and NPC adds a little.
open.mp allows up to 1000 players by its own limit, per its config.json guide. On PlayNHost your slots are set by your plan: How to change your open.mp server name, password and player slots.
How do I check my own usage?
- Open your server in the panel. The Overview page opens.
- On the Usage card, click RAM.
- Choose Live (30 minutes), or a longer range to see a busy evening.

What happens if it runs out?
If the server ever needs more memory than its plan gives, it is stopped, and the Overview page shows a card, This server ran out of memory, with Add more memory. Before you change anything, check what grew: a new map, plugin or gamemode update is the usual cause on open.mp. Fixes: open.mp server problems and fixes.
