When the owner of a server invites you, you get your own access to it with your own sign-in. You do not need their password, and you pay nothing: the plan stays with the owner.
Accept from the email
- Open the invitation email. It says who invited you, to which server, and what you will be able to do there.
- Click Accept the invite.
- Sign in to PlayNHost. If you do not have an account yet, create a free one. Use the same email address the invitation was sent to. See How to create your PlayNHost account and sign in.
- Accept the invitation on the page that opens. The panel then opens the server.
Accept in the panel
If you already have a PlayNHost account with that email address, the invitation also waits for you in the panel:
- On My servers, a banner says you have been invited, with the server's name, your role and how many permissions it has. Click Accept or Decline.
- In the notification bell, the Invites tab has the same Accept and Decline buttons.
After you accept
- The server is on your My servers page, marked Shared with you. Use Shared at the top of the list to see only servers other people share with you, and Mine for your own.
- The owner chose a role for you, and the menu shows only the pages that role allows. For example, a role without backups has no Backups page.
- My plan and Webhooks belong to the owner, so you do not see them. You never see the owner's invoices or payment details.
- If your role lets you manage files, you can also connect with SFTP. You get your own username, shown under SFTP details on the Files page, and you sign in with your own panel password. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP.
- The owner is told when you accept, and can change your role or remove your access at any time.
If the owner requires two-factor
An owner can require two-factor authentication for everyone they share the server with. Then you cannot open the server until two-factor is on for your account. See How to set up two-factor authentication.
If the invitation does not work
If the link, or the button on its page, shows a page that was not found, one of these is the reason:
- You are signed in with another email. An invitation only works for the account with the email address it was sent to. Sign out and sign in with that address, or ask the owner to invite the email your account uses.
- It has expired. An invitation works for seven days, and the email says until when. Ask the owner to send it again: on their Team & Roles page they can choose Resend invite. The new email has a new link, and the old link stops working.
- The owner cancelled it. Ask them for a new invitation.
Nothing happens unless you accept. If you do not want the invitation, ignore it or click Decline.
Leave a server
To stop having access, ask the owner to remove you. Once they do, the server no longer shows in your panel and nothing else on your account changes.
