Invite your friend from Team & Roles and give them a role with the permissions for what they should do. Playing on the server needs only the address. Running it in the panel needs a role. Moderating in the game needs a staff password instead.
Invite someone
- Open your server in the panel and click Team & Roles in the left menu. On a desktop you can also use Invite people at the top of the server page.
- Click Invite someone, enter their email address, choose a role and send the invitation.
The steps and the built-in roles are in How to invite friends and give them access.
Which permission a DDNet task needs
On the Roles tab you tick permissions in areas such as Control, Files, Backups, Settings and Schedules. For your DDNet server:
| Task | Permissions it needs |
|---|---|
| Use the Console and send commands | Control: Use the console |
| See the Maps page | Any Files permission, for example Browse files |
| Upload a map | Files: Create and upload |
| Start on this map | Settings: Change startup |
| Switch to a map now, or add a vote for it | Control: Use the console |
| Give a long map name its plain name (pencil) | Files: Edit and rename |
| Download a map | Files: Read contents |
| Delete a map | Files: Delete |
| See the Make it a public server card | Files: Read contents |
| Turn the public-server preset on or update it | Files: Edit and rename and Create and upload, plus Settings: Change startup |
| Restart now | Control: Restart |
| Change Game Settings | Settings: Change startup |
| Edit slots | Settings: Rename server |
Edit myServerconfig.cfg | Files: Read contents and Edit and rename |
| Start backup | Backups: Create |
| Restore a backup | Backups: Restore |
| Add or change schedules on Quick Tasks | Schedules |
If a button is missing for your friend, their role does not have the permission for it. Deleting files and restoring backups are risky: give those only to people you trust.
Make someone a moderator in the game
A panel role is not the same as staff in the game. To let a friend kick and ban players while they play, give them the Moderator RCON Password instead: How to add moderators and helpers to your DDNet server. Keep the admin RCON Password for yourself.
Good to know
- You can require two-factor for everyone you invite, on Team & Roles.
- To remove access, open Team & Roles and remove the person.
- To see who did what, use Activity: How to see what happened on your server.
