To run a command on a Counter-Strike 1.6 server on PlayNHost, click the Console tab, type the command in the Type a command box and press Enter. The Console has full rights and needs no password. RCON, for commands from the game or another tool, is off until you set an RCON Password in Settings, Game Settings.
Run a command
- Open your server in the panel and click the Console tab. The badge must say Online.
- Click the Type a command box at the bottom.
- Type a command, for example
status, and press Enter. - The answer appears in the Console above the box.
Type commands without a / in front. The Console is the server's own console, so it works for every command, including AMX Mod X admin commands, without making you admin.
Which commands are useful?

How do I turn on RCON?
RCON lets you send server commands from the game console or from an admin tool on your computer. It is off on a new server.
- Click the Settings tab, then Game Settings under Server Settings.
- Type a password in RCON Password: 1 to 30 letters, digits,
-or_. Use a different password from the join password. - Press Enter, then click Restart now.
In the game, open the console with the ~ key, type rcon_password "your-rcon-password", then rcon before each command, for example rcon changelevel de_nuke.
To switch RCON off again, empty RCON Password and restart. The server then answers every RCON attempt with Bad rcon_password. and No password set for this server.
Is RCON safe?
Anyone who knows the RCON password has full control of the server. Keep it long and private. The ReHLDS engine on your server also helps:
- After 5 wrong passwords from one address within 30 seconds, it refuses that address and the Console prints
Userand the address, thenwill be banned for rcon hacking. rcon_adduserwith an IP address or range limits RCON to those addresses.rcon_userslists them. Without any entry, anyone with the password may use RCON. Put thercon_adduserline incstrike/server.cfgso it is set again at every start.
For day-to-day admin in the game, AMX Mod X admin rights are safer than sharing the RCON password, because each admin gets only the flags you choose.
Who can use the Console tab?
You, and anyone you invited on Team & Roles who has the permission Use the console: Read output and send any command the server accepts. The built-in roles Moderator and Member include it, and so does a role created from the Moderator or Builder starting point on the Roles tab. A person with it can send any command, such as amx_addadmin or quit. For someone who must not send commands, give them a role without Use the console, such as one created from the Viewer starting point: it can read the Console output but not send commands.
