To become admin on a Space Station 14 server on PlayNHost, open server_config.toml under Files, type your Space Station 14 username in the login_host_user line, save, and restart the server. When you join, the game gives you full host admin. A new server has no admins at all.
How do I make myself host with login_host_user?
- In the panel, click the Files tab.
- Click
server_config.tomlin the main folder to open it. - Find the
[console]section and the linelogin_host_user = "". - Type your Space Station 14 username between the quotes, exactly as it is spelled on your account, for example
login_host_user = "YourName". - Click Save content.
- Click the arrow next to Stop and choose Restart (on a stopped server, click Start). Wait for the
-> Readyline in the Console. - Join the server from the launcher. You are host as soon as you connect.

The official config file describes the line as "A player username that will be automatically elevated to full admin privileges on join." Keep Authentication at 1 under Settings, Game Settings while it is set: with accounts required, nobody else can connect under your username. Never use 2 with login_host_user: with account checks off, a player can join under any name, yours included.
Can I use promotehost in the Console instead?
Possibly. The official hosting guide lists promotehost as a server console command that gives a connected player host "temporarily". PlayNHost has not yet tested typed commands in the panel's Console on a Space Station 14 server, so login_host_user above is the sure way.
- Join the server from the launcher.
- In the panel, click the Console tab.
- Type
promotehostfollowed by your username, for examplepromotehost YourName, and press Enter.
If nothing changes in game, use login_host_user. Because promotehost is temporary, give yourself a lasting rank as below once you are host.
How do I make admin permanent and add other admins?
The official config file says the lasting way is the game's permissions panel: press F7 in game and open the permissions panel, or type permissions in the game's own console. The official guide adds that "a privileged administrator can give out permissions to other admins with the permissions console command in-game". Once your rank is saved, empty login_host_user again (login_host_user = "") and restart.
A saved rank also counts where login_host_user does not. When the server checks the whitelist and the soft_max_players cap, it looks only at saved admin ranks, so a host from login_host_user or promotehost is treated like any other player there.
Is host admin safe to give out?
Only to people you trust with the whole server. The official guide warns that +HOST "allows them to completely take over your server". For moderators, give a smaller rank in the permissions panel instead.
Why did nothing happen when I joined?
- The name in
login_host_usermust match your account's username exactly. - The change applies only after a restart.
- You must click Save content before you leave the file.
login_host_usermust stay inside the[console]section of the file.
