These are the options on the Settings, Game Settings page of a PlayNHost Sons of the Forest server, taken from the panel's own definitions. Rows marked read only are set by your plan or the server and cannot be changed.
All settings
| Setting | What it does | Allowed | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server Name | The name players see for your server in the in-game server list. Takes effect on the next restart. | up to 60 characters | PlaynHost Server |
| Server Password | The password players must type to join your server. It arrives set to a placeholder, so put your own in before you share the server address. Letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores only. | up to 32 characters, letters and numbers and these symbols: _ . - | a default is set, change it |
| Difficulty | How hard your world is. It is read only when a brand new world is created, so changing it later leaves an existing world exactly as it was. The options are normal, hard, hardsurvival (Hard Survival), peaceful and custom. Custom rules cannot be set from the panel. To use a different difficulty on an existing world you have to start a new world, and the old one is lost unless you back it up first or use an unused Save Slot. | one of: normal, hard, hardsurvival, peaceful, custom | normal |
| Auto Update | On, the server downloads the newest Sons Of The Forest build each time it starts, which keeps it joinable for players whose game has updated. Off, it stays on the build it already has. Leave it on unless you have a reason to sit on an older version. | on or off | on |
| Save Slot | Which of your server's saved worlds to play. Leave it at 1 unless you have uploaded a world of your own, in which case set this to the number that world was saved under and restart. | a number from 1 to 30 | set by your plan |
| RedLoader mod loader | RedLoader is what Sons of the Forest mods are built against. Turn it on and upload each mod DLL into the Mods folder. The first start after turning it on rebuilds the game's interop assemblies and takes a couple of minutes; later starts are normal. Turning it off again leaves your mods where they are. | on or off | off |
| Player Slots (read only) | How many players can be on your server at the same time. The limit comes with your plan, so it is read only here - move to a bigger plan to raise it. Sons Of The Forest itself will not go above eight. | set by your plan or the server | set by your plan |
Good to know
- Server Name takes effect on the next restart. Difficulty only applies when a new world is created. Save Slot needs a restart to switch worlds. Restart the server after changing any of these.
- The panel saves a value when you leave its field. If the value is not allowed, the panel tells you and keeps the old one.
- Passwords and tokens are not listed with a value. Each server starts with one set for you, or with none, as the row says. Change any password before you invite players.
