Every world on your Minecraft Java server is listed on the Worlds tab of the Modding page. There you choose which world the server loads, bring in a world from your computer, add an adventure map, and download, pregenerate, trim, reset or delete a world.
Open it
- Open your server in the panel and click the Modding tab at the top.
- Click Worlds.
- The tab opens on Find a map. Click Your worlds next to it to see the worlds on your server.
The Worlds tab is there on server types that have a world. A proxy such as Velocity has no world of its own, so it has no Worlds tab.
Your worlds
Each row is one world folder on your server:
- Active marks the world your server loads when it starts.
- The size of the world.
- On Paper, Purpur, Spigot and Folia, the Nether and the End are folders of their own beside the world, shown under it as
Nether inandEnd inwith the folder names. They belong to that world: they are reset and deleted with it. - A Nether or End folder whose world is gone shows alone, with a Nether or End badge. It can only be deleted.
The menu of a world
Click the three dots at the end of a row (Actions for and the world's name):
| Menu item | What it does | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Make this the active world | The server loads this world from its next start. | How to switch to another world on your Minecraft server |
| Pregenerate the land | Generates the land around spawn ahead of time. Active world only. | How to pregenerate your Minecraft world |
| Trim unused chunks | Deletes land far from the centre that players hardly visited. Active world only. | How to trim unused chunks from your Minecraft world |
| Download the world | Packs the world into one file to download. | How to download your Minecraft world |
| Reset the Nether, Reset the End | Deletes that dimension only, so a new one is generated. | How to reset the Nether or the End on your Minecraft server |
| Delete world | Deletes the world with its Nether and End. | How to reset your Minecraft world |
The active world shows Already the active world in place of the first item.
Import a world
The Import a world button at the top of the tab brings a world from your computer, from single-player or from another host. See How to upload your own Minecraft world.
Find a map
Find a map searches adventure maps and other worlds that you can install in one click. See How to install an adventure map on your Minecraft server.
Progress cards
A pregeneration, a trim or a download in progress shows as a card above Your worlds, for example Pregenerating and the world's name, with its progress and the buttons Pause, Resume or Stop. One world job runs at a time. If you start another, the window says Something is already running on this server's worlds. Wait for it to finish.
Who can do what
- Seeing the list needs permission to read files.
- Make this the active world needs permission to change files.
- Delete world and the resets need permission to delete files.
- Pregenerate the land and Trim unused chunks need the console and permission to create files.
- Download the world needs permission to read file contents and to make archives.
- Import a world needs permission to create files.
If an item is missing from the menu, or the panel refuses it, your role may not have that permission. See How to let a friend help run your Minecraft server.
Good to know
- Bedrock servers keep their worlds in the
worldsfolder and have no Worlds tab: see How to run a Minecraft Bedrock server. - Back up before you delete or reset anything: How to back up, restore and reset your Minecraft world.
