How to use databases with your server

A database stores information in a structured way. Most game servers do not need one. Many plugins do, because they save things such as player balances, ranks, claims or logs.

Do you need one?

Check the documentation of the plugin or mod. If it asks for a database host, name, user and password in its settings, you need one. If you only use the game as it comes, you do not.

See your databases

1. Open your server in the panel.
2. Click Databases in the left menu.

The top of the page shows your allowance: Not included in this plan, or how many databases you have used out of how many you may create, for example 1 of 2 used.

If databases are not included

The page says Databases are not included. Databases come with the plan, so ask us. Open a ticket in the category Mods, plugins & modpacks, name the plugin that needs one, and we will tell you how to get it. See How to open a support ticket.

Create a database

When your plan includes databases, click New database (or Create a database if the list is empty). Choose the Type, MySQL or MariaDB, add an optional Label to help you tell databases apart, and click Create database. It is ready in a few seconds.

Connect a plugin to it

Click a database to see its connection details: the host, port, database name, user and password, and a connection string. The password is only shown if your role allows it. Copy them into the plugin's configuration, then restart the server so the plugin connects. See How to upload, edit and manage your server files.

Back it up

The Backups page has a Database type. Once your server has a database, you can choose it when you create a backup. Until then it tells you the server has no databases yet. See How to create, download and restore backups.

Good to know

• Treat the password like any other password. Do not paste it into public places.
• People you invite can only see database connection details if their role includes Databases. See How to invite friends and give them access.
