Invite your friend from Team & Roles, and give them a role with the permissions for what they should do. Playing on the server needs only the address. Running it in the panel needs a role.
Invite someone
- Open your server in the panel and click Team & Roles in the left menu. On a computer you can also use Invite people at the end of the tab row.
- Invite them by email and choose a role.

The steps and the built-in roles are in How to invite friends and give them access.
Which permission a Terraria task needs
On the Roles tab you tick permissions in areas such as Control, Files, Backups, Settings and Schedules:
| Task | Permissions it needs |
|---|---|
| Use the Console and send commands | Control: Use the console |
| Kick and Ban on the Active players card | Control: Use the console |
| See the Bans list | Use the console, plus Files: Read contents |
| Unban in the Bans list | Use the console, plus Files: Read contents and Create and upload |
| Start, stop, restart | Control: Start, Stop, Restart |
| Change Game Settings | Settings: Change startup |
| The Workshop page (tModLoader) | Settings: Change startup |
TShock's config.json page | Files: Read contents to open it, Edit and rename to save |
| Change the slots | Settings: Rename server |
| See TShock plugins on the Modding tab | Files: Browse files |
| Install a TShock plugin | Files: Create and upload |
| Uninstall a TShock plugin | Files: Delete |
| Take a backup | Backups: Create |
| Restore a backup | Backups: Restore |
| Add or change schedules | Schedules |
If a button is missing for your friend, their role does not have the permission for it. Deleting files and restoring backups can lose a world: give those only to people you trust.
Admin in the game is separate
A panel role is not the same as being admin in the game. On Terraria Vanilla and tModLoader there are no in-game admins: moderation is done from the panel. On TShock, admins are TShock accounts in a group: How to become admin on your TShock server and How to manage TShock groups and permissions.
Good to know
- To remove access, open Team & Roles and remove the person.
- To see who did what, use Activity: How to see what happened on your server.
