On a TShock server, open the Settings tab and click config.json under Config files. The page lists TShock's main options with a plain explanation each, such as Player versus player, Spawn protection, Players must log in and Whitelist only. Change what you want and click Save & restart.
Open the page
- Start the server once if it is new, so TShock writes all its settings into
tshock/config.json. - Open your server in the panel and click the Settings tab.
- Under Config files, click
config.json.
- Change the options. The bar at the bottom counts your unsaved changes.
- Click Save & restart to apply them now, or Save only to apply them at the next start. Revert throws the changes away.
The options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Server name, Use the server name | Show this name to players instead of the world name. |
| Player versus player | normal lets players choose, always forces it on, pvpwithnoteam forces it on except within a team, disabled turns it off. |
| Spawn protection, Spawn protection radius (tiles) | Stop players who are not admins from building or breaking blocks near the world spawn, and how far. |
| Players must log in | Every player has to log in to a TShock account to play. |
| Turn off login before joining | Players log in with /login once in, not from the join screen. |
| Turn off automatic login | A returning player is normally logged in by their game client ID. Turn this on for a public server, where an ID can be copied. |
| Whitelist only | Only addresses listed in tshock/whitelist.txt can join. See How to use a whitelist on your TShock server. |
| Reserved slots | Extra slots above the player limit for players with the reserved-slot permission. |
| Hardcore characters only, Mediumcore characters only, Softcore characters only | Only that kind of character can join. |
| Freeze the world | Nobody without the build permission can place or break anything. |
| Block hardmode | The world cannot enter hardmode. |
| No tombstones, No Dungeon Guardian, No clown bombs, No snowballs | Turn those off. |
| Fixed time of day | normal lets the clock run, day or night keeps it there. |
| Always Christmas, Always Halloween | The events and drops all year. |
| Enemies per player, Enemy spawn delay, Invasion size | Spawn rates. The game defaults are 5 enemies and a delay of 600; lower delay spawns faster. |
| Respawn time (seconds), Respawn time during a boss (seconds) | How long a dead player waits. 0 keeps the game default. |
| Autosave, Announce saves, Save when the last player leaves | When the world is written. |
| TShock world backups every (minutes), Keep TShock world backups for (minutes) | TShock's own world copies in tshock/backups, on top of the panel backups. 0 turns them off. They use disk space. |
| Show join country | Announce the country a joining player connects from. |
| Kick proxy users | Kick players connecting through a known proxy or VPN. |
What is not on this page
- The join password and the player limit are panel settings, written into this file at every start: Server Password in Game Settings, and the slots on Overview.
- Accounts, groups, permissions and bans are in TShock's database, not in
config.json: How to manage TShock groups and permissions. - Any other TShock option: edit
tshock/config.jsonin Files, with the server stopped.
Good to know
- This page edits a file: opening it needs the Files permission Read contents, and saving needs Edit and rename. See How to let a friend help run your Terraria server.
- TShock's longer welcome text is
tshock/motd.txt: How to set the welcome message on your Terraria server.
