How to update your open.mp server

open.mpUpdated Oct 30, 20265 min read

A PlayNHost open.mp server is installed with the newest open.mp release when it is created, and it does not update itself after that. To move to a newer release, open Settings and use Update and reinstall at the bottom of Game Settings. The panel takes a backup first. The Console shows your version at every start, in the line Starting open.mp server.

Which version does my server run?

  1. Open your server in the panel and click Console in the left menu.
  2. Restart the server, or scroll up to the start.
  3. Find the line Starting open.mp server (1.6.7.3218) from commit followed by a code. The numbers in brackets are your version.

The newest release on 30 October 2026 is v1.6.7.3218, published on 14 October 2026. open.mp lists its releases on its GitHub releases page.

Do I need to update?

Not for players to join. Your server accepts the open.mp launcher and the SA-MP 0.3.7 and 0.3.DL clients, because Allow_037_clients under Network in the config.json settings is on. Update when a release fixes something you need, or when a plugin or component asks for a newer open.mp. A component built for another open.mp version prints Failed to load component: Built for open.mp version in the Console.

How do I get a newer release?

  1. Open your server in the panel and click Settings in the left menu. It opens on Game Settings.
  2. Check that Version says latest, or the release you want.
  3. Scroll to the Update and reinstall card at the bottom, click Update and reinstall and confirm.
  4. The server stops, the panel takes a backup of it, and the install runs again. It usually takes a few minutes. A server that was running starts again by itself when it is done.
  5. Check the version line in the Console.

The backup is listed on Backups as "Automatic - before update and reinstall", so you can restore it if the new release does not suit you. If a backup is not possible, for example because every backup slot already holds one of yours, the panel asks "Update without a backup?" and does nothing until you press Update without a backup. A second update within 20 minutes does not take a new backup, so the one from before the first update stays.

Only the owner and subusers with the Reinstall permission can use the button. The backup is taken for people who also have the Create permission under Backups.

What does an update keep and replace?

The update unpacks the new open.mp release over your server folder.

KeptReplaced with the release's version
config.json: your name, password, gamemode list, plugins listomp-server and open.mp's own files in components and qawno
bans.json, your ban listgungame, derby and simpletdm in gamemodes, and npc_trains in filterscripts
Your own gamemodes, filterscripts, plugins, scriptfiles and data

config.json and bans.json stay as they are, together with every file you added yourself. If you changed one of the three example gamemodes or npc_trains, save your copy under another name first, or the update replaces it. If GitHub gives no download link, the install stops with a clear line in the Console and your files are untouched.

What is the Version row in Game Settings?

Under Settings, Game Settings, Version says which open.mp release is installed; latest means the newest. It is only read during installation, so the row shows Applies on reinstall. After you change it, the panel says "Saved. This is read while the server installs, so a restart will not apply it." Click Update and reinstall to apply in that note, or use the card at the bottom, to install the release you named.
