Download the .jar file to your computer, open Files, go into the plugins folder (for plugins) or the mods folder (for mods), click Upload and choose the file. Then restart the server. Do it this way for a paid plugin, a plugin or mod from a site the Modding tab does not search, or a build the catalogues do not offer.
Before you start
- Get the file from the plugin's or mod's official page, for the right server type and the right Minecraft version. A mod also has to match your loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt).
- Download anything it needs too. When you upload by hand, the panel does not add required plugins or libraries for you.
- Take a backup. See How to create, download and restore backups.
Upload it
- Open your server in the panel and click the Files tab.
Open the folder:
pluginson Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Folia and the proxies (Velocity, BungeeCord, Waterfall).modson Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
If the folder is not there yet, start the server once and stop it.
- Click Upload and choose the
.jarfile. Put it straight in the folder, not in a folder inside it. - Restart the server so it loads the file.
For many files or big ones, SFTP is faster. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP and How to upload, edit and manage your server files.
See it on the Installed list
Open Modding, then Plugins or Mods, and click Installed. The list shows every jar in the folder, uploaded ones included:
- If the panel recognises the file on Modrinth, CurseForge or Hangar, it shows the name and version, and it can offer updates.
- If not, the row shows the file name and
Not recognized - installed manually or renamed. The panel cannot update that file for you. You can still switch it off or uninstall it.

Update a file you uploaded
Upload the new file, then delete the old one in Files. Never keep two versions of the same plugin or mod in the folder: the server may refuse to start or load neither. If two copies stop your server, see Two copies of a mod are installed on your Minecraft server.
If it does not load
- Open the Console after the restart and look for lines with the file's name.
- A plugin that needs another plugin: A Minecraft plugin needs another plugin that is not installed.
- A mod that needs another mod: A Minecraft mod needs another mod that is not installed.
- A file that needs a newer Java: A Minecraft plugin or mod needs a newer Java.
Good to know
- You need permission to create and upload files.
- A server that runs your own server jar is covered in How to run your own server jar on your Minecraft server.
- The catalogues are quicker for anything they have: How to use the Modding page on your Minecraft server.
