Players use one address, shown as address:port. Valheim also uses the next port number for its own queries, and both ports are set up for you. Nothing needs opening on your router or anywhere else.
Find the address
- Open your server in the panel and click Ports & Network in the left menu.
- Give this to your players shows the address as
address:port, with a copy button. If your server has a hostname, a line below says Also reachable at.

The same address is on the Overview page, on the Server Address row and in the Play with friends card.
The two ports
Under All ports you see two ports. The Primary port is the one players connect to. The second one is labelled Steam query port, used by the game automatically. You cannot remove it, and you do not give it to players.
Iron Gate's guide says the same: Valheim uses the port you set and the next port number.
What to know
- Port numbers are assigned by the machine your server runs on. You can name a port, but you cannot choose its number.
- Each port accepts both TCP and UDP traffic, so there is nothing to choose.
- A server with crossplay on cannot be reached by a local or loopback address.
- A Dedicated IP gives your server an address of its own. Read How to find your server's ports and IP address, and add a dedicated IP before you decide.
