How to set up an economy with Vault and EssentialsX on your Minecraft server

EssentialsX has money built in: players have a balance, can see it with /balance and pay each other with /pay. Install EssentialsX and Vault from Modding, Plugins, restart, and give players the economy permissions. Vault is how other plugins, such as shops or jobs, reach that money.

The commands and settings below come from EssentialsX's own files and the Vault project.

Install the plugins

1. Open your server in the panel, click the Modding tab, then Plugins.
2. Install EssentialsX. See How to set up homes, warps and kits with EssentialsX on your Minecraft server.
3. Install Vault: set Source to SpigotMC, search for Vault and click Install. Vault describes itself as a Permissions, Chat, & Economy API to give plugins easy hooks into these systems. If the panel cannot download it, it gives you a link: download the file there and upload it to plugins. See How to upload your own plugins or mods to your Minecraft server.
4. Restart the server.

Give players the economy commands

With LuckPerms, in the Console:

lp group default permission set essentials.balance true
lp group default permission set essentials.pay true
lp group default permission set essentials.balancetop true

The commands

• /balance (or /bal) shows your money. /balance Steve shows Steve's, with essentials.balance.others.
• /pay Steve 50 pays Steve 50 from your balance.
• /baltop lists the richest players.
• /eco give Steve 100, /eco take Steve 100 and /eco set Steve 100 manage balances. Keep /eco for admins. In the Console, type it without the slash.

Starting money and the currency sign

In EssentialsX's config.yml:

• starting-balance is what new players start with. It is 0 until you change it.
• currency-symbol is the currency sign, '$' until you change it.

On the Installed list of Modding, Plugins, open EssentialsX's menu, choose Edit its settings, open config.yml, change the values and click Save & restart. See How to edit plugin and mod settings on your Minecraft server.

Shops and other plugins that use money

Plugins that sell items, pay for jobs or charge for land usually reach balances through Vault, which is what Vault is for. Install them from Modding, Plugins, and check on each plugin's page that it supports Vault, so it uses EssentialsX's money.
