How to set up homes, warps and kits with EssentialsX on your Minecraft server

MinecraftUpdated Oct 28, 20265 min read

EssentialsX adds the everyday commands players expect, such as /sethome, /home, /warp, /kit, /spawn and /tpa. Install it from Modding, Plugins, restart, then set up warps and kits in the game. Players need permissions for each command, which you give them with a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms.

The commands and permissions below come from EssentialsX's own files and documentation.

Install EssentialsX

  1. Open your server in the panel, click the Modding tab, then Plugins.
  2. Search for EssentialsX and click Install on the EssentialsX row. EssentialsX's guide says only the main EssentialsX plugin is required; the others are optional modules.
  3. If you want /spawn and /setspawn, install EssentialsX Spawn too, and for chat formatting EssentialsX Chat.
  4. Its guide also says you need Vault, which lets EssentialsX talk to your permissions plugin (without it, prefixes and group features do not work), and recommends LuckPerms for ranks. Vault is on SpigotMC: set Source to SpigotMC to find it. See How to set up ranks and permissions with LuckPerms on your Minecraft server.
  5. Restart the server. EssentialsX creates its settings the first time it starts.

EssentialsX runs on Paper, Purpur and Spigot. See How to install plugins on Paper, Spigot and Purpur.

Give players the commands

EssentialsX commands are for operators until you give players their permissions. With LuckPerms, add them to the default group, for example:

lp group default permission set essentials.home true
lp group default permission set essentials.sethome true
lp group default permission set essentials.warp true
lp group default permission set essentials.kit true
lp group default permission set essentials.spawn true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpa true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpaccept true

Type these in the Console without a slash.

Homes

  • /sethome sets your home where you stand; /sethome base gives it a name.
  • /home (or /home base) takes you there. /delhome base removes it.
  • More than one home needs essentials.sethome.multiple. How many is set under sethome-multiple in EssentialsX's config.yml, which starts with default: 3, vip: 5 and staff: 10. A group gets a limit with the permission essentials.sethome.multiple.vip (for vip) and so on.

Warps

  • /setwarp shop creates a warp named shop where you stand.
  • /warp shop takes a player there, and /warp alone lists the warps. /delwarp shop removes it.
  • Players need essentials.warp. To limit each warp to its own permission, set per-warp-permission to true in config.yml.

Kits

  • Put the items in your inventory and type /createkit starter 3600. That makes a kit named starter that each player can take once every 3600 seconds (an hour).
  • Players take it with /kit starter, and /kit lists the kits.
  • They need essentials.kit and the kit's own permission, essentials.kits.starter (or essentials.kits.* for all kits).
  • Kits are stored in kits.yml in the EssentialsX folder. A delay of -1 makes a one-time kit.

Spawn and teleport requests

  • With EssentialsX Spawn, /setspawn sets the spawn point where you stand, and /spawn takes players there.
  • /tpa Steve asks to teleport to Steve, who accepts with /tpaccept. /back returns you to where you were before a teleport.

Change EssentialsX settings

EssentialsX's main settings are in config.yml in its folder, plugins/Essentials. On the Installed list of Modding, Plugins, open EssentialsX's menu and choose Edit its settings. Other files, such as kits.yml, are edited in Files while the server is stopped. See How to edit plugin and mod settings on your Minecraft server.
