LuckPerms decides who may use which command. Install it from Modding, Plugins, restart, then type lp user <your name> permission set luckperms.* true in the Console to give yourself full access. After that you create groups (ranks), give them permissions, and put players in them, with commands or the LuckPerms web editor.
The commands below are from the official LuckPerms wiki. In the panel Console, type them without a slash. In the game, start them with /.
Install LuckPerms
- Open your server in the panel, click the Modding tab, then Plugins.
- Search for
LuckPermsand click Install on the LuckPerms row. - Restart the server.
LuckPerms is published for Paper, Spigot, Folia and the proxies, and also as a mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, so on a mod server use the Mods tab instead. Full install steps: How to install plugins on Paper, Spigot and Purpur.
Give yourself full access
- Open the Console tab.
- Type
lp user YourName permission set luckperms.* true, with your Minecraft name, and press Enter.
The * is a wildcard: it gives you every permission that starts with luckperms, so you can run all LuckPerms commands in the game. See How to use the Console on your Minecraft server.
Create ranks and give them permissions
Every player is in the group default from the start. To add more groups:
- Create a group:
lp creategroup admin. - Give the group a permission:
lp group admin permission set minecraft.command.ban true. A permission is a word with dots, such asminecraft.command.ban. Each plugin lists its own permissions on its page. - Put a player in the group:
lp user Steve parent add admin. - Let one group have everything another has:
lp group admin parent add modmakesadmininherit all ofmod's permissions. In the same way,lp group mod parent add default.
A permission can be true, false or not set.
Use the web editor
For many changes, the web editor is easier:
- Type
lp editorin the Console (or/lp editorin the game). - Open the link it gives you in your browser and make your changes.
- Click Save in the editor. It gives you a command; copy it and run it in the Console to apply the changes.
Show ranks in chat
LuckPerms can give a group a prefix, for example lp group admin meta addprefix 100 "&c[Admin] ". LuckPerms does not change chat by itself: its wiki says you need a chat plugin to show prefixes, such as EssentialsX Chat, and on Paper and Spigot, Vault as well. See How to set up homes, warps and kits with EssentialsX on your Minecraft server.
Good to know
- LuckPerms keeps its data in its own folder inside
plugins. A backup keeps it, and uninstalling the plugin leaves it in place unless you delete the folder. See How to switch off or uninstall a plugin or mod on your Minecraft server. - Operators (op) are a different system built into Minecraft. See How to op yourself and manage permissions on your Minecraft server.
- On a network, LuckPerms can share ranks between servers through a database. See the LuckPerms wiki and How to create a MySQL database for your Minecraft plugins.
- Everything else LuckPerms can do is in its own wiki at luckperms.net/wiki.
