Add sv_welcome, sv_motd and sv_rules_line1 lines to myServerconfig.cfg under Files, save, and restart the server. A new server shows DDNet's own texts, including a message of the day that starts with "Testserver with DDraceNetwork Features!", so most owners change it.
Change the texts
- Open your server in the panel and click the Files tab.
- Open
myServerconfig.cfg, in the main folder. - Add the lines you want, one per line, for example:
sv_welcome "Welcome! Have fun and be nice."
sv_motd "Friday races at 20:00.\nType /rules for the rules."
sv_rules_line1 "No blocking other players."
sv_rules_line2 "No spam in chat."
- Save the file and restart the server.
| Line | Where players see it |
|---|---|
sv_welcome | A chat line when they join. |
sv_motd | The message of the day window when they join. \n starts a new line. |
sv_rules_line1 to sv_rules_line10 | Under /rules in the chat, one line each. |
sv_ddrace_rules 0 | Hides DDNet's default rules from /rules, so only yours show. |
Put the text in double quotes. Do not use a double quote inside the text.
Repeating announcements
DDNet can post a line from a file in the chat every so often.
- Under Files, in the main folder, create a file named
myannouncements.txtand write one announcement per line. - In
myServerconfig.cfg, add:
sv_announcement_filename "myannouncements.txt"
sv_announcement_interval 30
sv_announcement_interval is in minutes. DDNet picks the lines at random; sv_announcement_random 0 shows them in order.
- Save and restart the server.
Use your own file name rather than the announcement.txt in data: files that come with DDNet are replaced when DDNet updates.
Why myServerconfig.cfg
The server runs myServerconfig.cfg last at every start, and an update or a reinstall never changes it. The game's own start file, data/autoexec_server.cfg, also has these lines, but keep your changes in myServerconfig.cfg. See How to add your own settings to your DDNet server.
