A Vintage Story server on PlayNHost holds as many players at once as the Slots row on its Overview page shows, which is the number of player slots your plan includes. In practice memory sets the comfortable number: the official guide estimates 1 GB plus about 300 MB per player.
Where is the player limit set?
On the Overview page, in the server card, the Slots row shows the limit. Click its pencil to lower it or raise it back, up to your plan's number: How to change player slots on your Vintage Story server. The panel passes that number to the game on every start, so it is always the real cap.
How many players fit in my plan's memory?
The official dedicated server guide gives a rough, conservative estimate:
| Players online | Estimated RAM (1 GB + 300 MB each) |
|---|---|
| 2 | 1.6 GB |
| 4 | 2.2 GB |
| 8 | 3.4 GB |
| 12 | 4.6 GB |
| 16 | 5.8 GB |
Mods and a long view distance add to these numbers. Check your real usage on the RAM graph with your group online: How much RAM does a Vintage Story server need?.
Can more players wait when the server is full?
Yes. Set Join queue size in the serverconfig.json card under Settings, Config files: that many players can wait in a queue and join when a place frees up. The default is 0, no queue.
Who can join?
Anyone with their own Vintage Story account, on Windows, Mac or Linux, who has the address and, if you set them, the password or a place on the whitelist: How to invite friends to your Vintage Story server.
