Open Quick Tasks, click the schedule, switch on Skip while players are online, and under When players are online choose how long to wait for the server to empty. For an update, the notice in Settings has Restart when nobody is online. Both use the player count the panel reads from your server.
A schedule that waits
- Open your server in the panel and click Quick Tasks in the left menu.
- Under Schedules, click the schedule, for example Daily restart, to open its steps.
- Switch on Skip while players are online.
A choice appears: When players are online. Pick one:
- Skip that run: the run is skipped and the next one comes at its usual time.
- Wait up to 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2, 4, 6 or 12 hours for the server to empty.
With a wait, It looks again every 5 minutes, runs as soon as the game reports nobody on, and runs anyway when the wait is over. The wait is a length of time, so it works the same wherever you are.
Good to know
- If the server cannot report its players, the run goes ahead. Run now always runs.
- The Daily restart only runs while the server is running: if the server is stopped while it waits, the wait ends and the server is not started. A schedule of your own does not check that, so a stopped server reads as nobody online and the waiting step runs.
- The Daily restart without this option still treats players kindly when PlayNHost Tools are on: it warns them 5 minutes and 1 minute before. See How to schedule restarts and backups for your Valheim server.
A restart for an update, when the server is empty
When Steam has a newer Valheim than your server, Settings, Game Settings shows A new Valheim version is out.
- Choose Restart when nobody is online.
- Click Restart when empty.
The panel checks every 2 minutes and restarts the server as soon as it is empty. It stops waiting after 12 hours. While it waits, the notice says Waiting for the server to be empty, with Cancel the restart. If the panel cannot tell who is online, or the server is stopped, this choice cannot be picked and the notice says why. See How to update your Valheim server and hold a version.
