How to set up Journey mode on your Terraria server

TerrariaUpdated Oct 24, 20263 min read

Set Difficulty to 3 in Settings, Game Settings, give the world a new World Name and restart: the server creates a Journey world. On Terraria Vanilla, Journey powers then decides who can use the powers: 2 every player, 0 locked for everyone.

Make a Journey world

  1. Open your server in the panel, click the Settings tab, then Game Settings.
  2. Set Difficulty to 3.
  3. If the server already has a world, change World Name to a new name. Difficulty only applies when a world is created.
  4. Restart the server and wait for the ready line in the Console.

Journey worlds can only be joined with Journey characters, and Journey characters can only play in Journey worlds. Tell your players to make a Journey character first.

Who can use Journey powers

On Terraria Vanilla, Journey powers covers god mode, time, weather, spawn rates, difficulty, infection spread and placement range:

  • 2: every player can use them. This is the default.
  • 0: locked for everyone.

Restart after a change. The setting only matters on a world created with Difficulty 3.

Good to know

  • You cannot turn an existing classic, expert or master world into a Journey world from the panel, and the other way round. Make a new world.
  • TShock and tModLoader have Difficulty too, so they can make Journey worlds, but the Journey powers setting is on Terraria Vanilla only.
