You do not update Oxide or Carbon by hand on PlayNHost. The panel says the framework re-installs itself on every start so game updates never strip it, so a restart brings the newest build. Your plugins, their settings and their data stay where they are.
Get the newest build
- Open your server in the panel.
- Click Restart at the top of the page. Players are disconnected for a short while.
- Open the Console and wait for Server startup complete.
- Check the version: type
oxide.versionon Oxide, orc.versionon Carbon.

Your plugins are reloaded at the start. On Oxide, look at the Installed list on the Modding tab for any plugin that shows Not running. On Carbon, the Console shows plugins that fail to load. See How to fix a plugin that is not running on your Rust server.
After a Rust update
When Facepunch ships a Rust update, the newest Oxide or Carbon may need a little time to catch up. The panel handles that order for you:
- With Auto Update on, it waits until Oxide has released for the new Rust build, or until Carbon has, or about an hour has passed for Carbon, then restarts your running server once, with a warning in the game if players are on. That one restart installs the new Rust build and the matching framework together.
- While it waits, Game Settings says the framework
has not released for it yet, and asks you not to restart. Do not restart by hand then: an old framework on a new Rust can leave your plugins not loading.
See How to update your Rust server and, if plugins stopped loading, Rust plugins do not load after a Rust update.
A daily restart keeps it current
A schedule that restarts the server once a day at a quiet hour also picks up every new framework build: How to restart your Rust server on a schedule. The ready-made wipe schedules start the server with the latest Oxide or Carbon too.
Good to know
- There is nothing to download or upload for the framework itself.
- Plugins are separate from the framework. Update them on the Installed list: How to install and update plugins on your Rust server.
- To change framework, see How to switch your Rust server between Oxide and Carbon.
- On the Staging branch, Oxide and Carbon may not load, because they are built for Release: How to switch your Rust server to the staging branch.
