When players cannot join your PlayNHost DayZ server right after a DayZ update, the server is still on the old version. Enforce Game Version is on by default, so the server only accepts players on its own version. Restart the server: with Automatic Updates on, it installs the update before the game starts.
What players see
Bohemia's list of DayZ error codes has these version messages:
Your currently installed game version is not compatible with this server. The current game version (client) is not compatible with this serverBad version, server rejected the connection.
Fix it
- Open your server in the panel and click Restart.
- Watch the Console: the server checks Steam after
[UPDATE]: Checking for game server updates with App ID: 223350..., downloads the new version, then prints[UPDATE]: Game server is up to date! - Wait for
Mission read., then let the players try again.
If it still refuses them
- Automatic Updates is off. Turn it on under Settings, Game Settings, and restart again.
- A player has not updated. The player's DayZ must be on the new version too.
- The update broke a mod. The server starts but players with the updated mod are kicked. Upload the updated mod folder: Players are kicked for mod signatures on your DayZ server.
Could I turn Enforce Game Version off instead?
Leave it on and restart instead. The panel's own description of Automatic Updates says it: players on a newer game version cannot join an older server while Enforce Game Version is on, so a restart after a game update is what lets them in again.
Never miss an update
Add the ready-made Nightly restart schedule on Quick Tasks. It restarts the server once a night, so it picks up DayZ updates: How to restart your DayZ server on a schedule.
