To change the name of a Counter-Strike 1.6 server on PlayNHost, open Settings, then Game Settings, and type the new name in Server Hostname. Use hyphens instead of spaces, keep it to 64 characters, and restart the server so the new name shows.
Change the name
- Open your server in the panel and click the Settings tab.
- Under Server Settings on the left, click Game Settings.
- Click into Server Hostname and type the new name, for example
Friday-Night-Dust2. - Press Enter or click outside the field. The panel shows
Saved. The server must restart before these take effect. - Click Restart now under that message and wait for the badge to say Online.
To check the name, type status in the Console tab and press Enter. The first line, hostname:, shows the name the server now uses.
Why can the name not have spaces?
The Server Hostname goes into the server's start line, so the panel refuses spaces, quotes ", backslashes \, * and ?. If the name has one of them, the save fails with The value format is invalid. Use hyphens or underscores between words instead, for example Clan-Wars-24-7 or Clan_Wars.
What is the default name?
A new server is called Counter-Strike-1.6-Server. Change it before you invite people, so they can tell your server from the others.
Can I set the name in server.cfg instead?
No. The Server Hostname from Settings is part of the server's start line, and when cstrike/server.cfg has a line that starts with hostname, the panel rewrites that line with the same name at every start. A name you type in that file is replaced the next time the server starts. Change it in Settings only.
Is this the same as the Server Name on Overview?
No. The Server Name on the Overview server card is the name of the server in your panel and your server list there. Players never see it. The Server Hostname is the name players see in the game.
You need the permission to change startup settings on this server. If you were invited with a role that does not have it, ask the owner.
