How to restart your BeamMP server on a schedule

BeamMPUpdated Oct 22, 20264 min read

A new BeamMP server has no daily restart. Build one on Quick Tasks: take Restart with Warning from Default tasks, choose Schedule…, and set a time each day. A restart also installs a new BeamMP build when one is out, if BeamMP Server Version is latest.

Why restart on a schedule

  • BeamMP checks for a new build at every start: How to update your BeamMP server.
  • Saved changes to the name, tags, map, plugins and settings apply at a start.
  • A newer version of the PlayNHost tools starts with the next restart.

Build a daily restart

  1. Open your server in the panel and click Quick Tasks in the left menu.
  2. Under All tasks, open Default tasks and find Restart with Warning. It Warns players in chat one minute and then ten seconds before, then restarts the server.
  3. Open its menu and choose Schedule….
  4. Give the schedule a Name, for example Daily restart, then click Next step.
  5. Choose Repeats, set How often to Every day, and set the time under At. The window says what time it is where you are.
  6. Keep Enabled on and click Schedule.

The new schedule appears under Schedules. Send Restart works the same way, without the warnings.

Do not restart while people drive

Open the schedule and switch on Skip while players are online. A list appears under it, When players are online:

  • Skip that run: a run that comes while anyone is on is skipped, and the next one is tried at its own time.
  • A wait such as Wait up to 2 hours for the server to empty: the panel looks again every 5 minutes, restarts as soon as nobody is on, and restarts anyway when the wait is over.

The player count comes from the PlayNHost plugin. If it cannot report its players, for example with PlayNHost Tools off, the schedule runs. Run now always runs.

Switch it off, test it or delete it

  1. On Quick Tasks, find your schedule under Schedules.
  2. Use its switch to turn it off or on.
  3. Open the ... menu on the schedule and choose Run now to test it. This restarts the server right away. Choose Delete schedule to remove it.

The Quick Tasks page cannot change the time of a schedule that exists. For another time, build a new schedule and switch the old one off.

The other BeamMP tasks

Default tasks also has these BeamMP tasks. Each can be run now, pinned to Overview or scheduled.

TaskWhat it does
Announce to PlayersShows a message you type to everyone on the server (BeamMP's say).
Server StatusPrints the server's status in the Console: players, uptime and whether each part is healthy.
Reload ModsRe-reads the mods folder without a restart. Players join with the new list from then on.
Backup ServerTakes a backup.

Clicking Run on Announce to Players under Default tasks opens Configure task, where you type the message. Save task only saves it, under Your tasks: click Run there to send it. See How to schedule tasks and automatic backups for every part of the page.
