serverconfig.xml is the game's own settings file, in the main folder of your server. Open it under Files, change a value, click Save content and restart. A few of its lines are set by the panel instead, at every start: change those on the Game Settings page.
Edit the file
- In the panel, stop the server.
- Open Files and click
serverconfig.xml. - Find the line you want. Each setting is one line with a
nameand avalue, and most have a comment beside them that explains the values. Change only what is between the quotes aftervalue=. - Click Save content.
- Start the server.
To find a line fast, click in the file, press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) and type part of its name, for example LandClaim.
Lines the panel sets for you
The panel hands these to the game at every start, and they win over the file. Change them on Settings, Game Settings, not here:
| In the file | In the panel |
|---|---|
ServerName, ServerDescription, ServerPassword | Server Name, Server Description, Server Password |
ServerVisibility | Server Listing |
ServerPort | set by your server's address |
ServerMaxPlayerCount | Slots on Overview |
GameWorld, WorldGenSeed, WorldGenSize, GameName | World, Random World Seed, Random World Size, Save Name |
EACEnabled | EasyAntiCheat |
| Telnet lines | set by the panel, which uses them for the Console |
The panel's Game Difficulty has no line in the file any more: since the game's 3.0 update difficulty is part of the sandbox code, and that panel setting most likely has no effect.
What you change in the file
- Gameplay rules such as difficulty, blood moons, day length and loot: the
SandboxCodeline. See How to change difficulty and sandbox settings on your 7 Days to Die server. - Land claims, player killing, spawn limits and other server rules: their own lines. Read the comment beside each for the values it takes.
- Crossplay:
ServerAllowCrossplayandIgnoreEOSSanctions. See How to let console players join your 7 Days to Die server.
Do not add lines you found in an old guide. The game removed many of them in its 3.0 update, including GameDifficulty, the blood moon, day length and loot lines, and a line it does not know does nothing.
Keep your changes safe
- Download a copy of the file before you edit it: open the menu on its row in Files and choose Download file.
- A game update can bring a fresh
serverconfig.xml, and a reinstall always puts back the game's own copy. After an update or a reinstall, check your lines and put them back if needed. - A typo can stop the server starting. If it will not start after an edit, upload your copy again, or see How to fix a server that will not start.
