How to use WorldEdit on your Minecraft server

MinecraftUpdated Oct 28, 20264 min read

WorldEdit changes large areas of your world at once: fill, replace, copy, paste and undo. Install it from Modding, Plugins (or Mods on a mod server), restart, give yourself access, then select an area with the wand (//wand) and use commands such as //set stone.

The commands below are from WorldEdit's official documentation. WorldEdit commands start with two slashes.

Install WorldEdit

  1. Open your server in the panel, click the Modding tab, then Plugins.
  2. Search for WorldEdit and click Install on the WorldEdit row. WorldEdit's guide says to get the download for your Minecraft version; the panel picks it for you.
  3. Restart the server.

WorldEdit is also published as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, on the Mods tab. See How to install plugins on Paper, Spigot and Purpur.

Give yourself access

WorldEdit's documentation says that by default nobody can use it. Two ways:

Give builders only the parts they need: worldedit.wand for the wand, worldedit.region.set for //set, and so on, as listed in WorldEdit's permissions page.

Select an area

  1. Type //wand to get the wand.
  2. Left-click a block to mark the first corner.
  3. Right-click a block to mark the opposite corner.

Without the wand, //pos1 and //pos2 set the corners to the block above the one you stand on.

Change the selection

  • //set stone fills the whole selection with stone.
  • //replace dirt grass_block replaces dirt with grass blocks in the selection.
  • //walls stone_bricks builds walls around the selection, with no floor or ceiling.

Copy and paste

  1. Select the area and stand where you want the paste to line up from, for example on top of it.
  2. //copy copies the selection. //cut copies it and removes it.
  3. Go to the new place and type //paste. It lands in the same position relative to you as when you copied it. //paste -o puts it back where it was copied from.
  4. //rotate 90 turns what you copied before you paste it.

Undo a mistake

  • //undo undoes your last change, and //undo 5 the last five.
  • //redo brings back what you undid.
