How to join your Minecraft server from a phone, tablet or console

MinecraftUpdated Nov 1, 20265 min read

Phones, tablets and Windows PCs run Minecraft Bedrock Edition and join your PlayNHost Java server once crossplay is on: in Minecraft they choose Play, Servers, Add Server, then type the Bedrock address and Bedrock port from your Play with friends card. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch have no Add Server, so they join from their Friends tab with console joining.

Who can join what

  • Java Edition on PC and Mac: joins with the address, see How to join your Minecraft server.
  • Bedrock on phones, tablets and Windows PCs: joins a Java server with crossplay on, by address and Bedrock port.
  • Xbox, PlayStation and Switch: cannot type a server address at all. They join from their Friends tab when console joining is on.

Step 1: check crossplay is on

  1. Open your server in the panel and look at the Play with friends card on the Overview page.
  2. If it shows Bedrock address and Bedrock port, crossplay is on. Go to step 2.
  3. If the Bedrock Edition row says Turn on crossplay, click it. It opens Ports & Network, where Enable crossplay installs Geyser and Floodgate and gives Bedrock a port of its own. Then restart the server. The full steps are in How to let Bedrock players join your Java server with Geyser.
  4. If it says Not on this version yet, crossplay cannot run on your Minecraft version yet. The hint under it says why.

Step 2: join from a phone, tablet or Windows PC

  1. Copy the Bedrock address and the Bedrock port from the card, or send your friend the whole message with Copy invite text.
  2. In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, choose Play, then the Servers tab, then Add Server.
  3. Type the address and the port in their own boxes. The Bedrock port is not the Java port, and it does not go after the address with a colon.
  4. Save it and join.
  5. The first time, Minecraft asks the player to trust your server. They accept. The panel's own card says The first time they join, Minecraft asks them to trust this server. That is expected.

GeyserMC's NetherNet guide explains the question: players who connect through an IP address see a "trust on first use" prompt on their first join. Minecraft remembers the answer and does not ask again on later joins to the same server.

The card says "Updated Bedrock players cannot join until crossplay is updated"

That warning comes from crossplay set up with the older connection method, before Bedrock 26.60. Since Bedrock 26.60 (27 October 2026) phones, tablets and Windows PCs cannot join that way. The server owner clicks Update crossplay under the warning, or opens Ports & Network and clicks Update crossplay on the Bedrock crossplay card, then restarts. The card then shows a new Bedrock port: players change the port in the server they saved, or add it again. See Bedrock players cannot join your Minecraft server.

Step 3: consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch)

Console editions of Minecraft only list the featured servers and cannot add any other server. The way in is console joining, which shows your server in the console player's Friends tab.

  • When console joining is set up, the Consoles row of the Play with friends card shows a gamertag with the hint Xbox, PlayStation and Switch: add this as a friend in Minecraft, then join from the Friends tab.
  • The console player adds that gamertag as a friend in Minecraft or the Xbox app. The server then shows in their Friends tab, under Joinable Friends.
  • While console joining is off, the row says Not by address.

Console joining is turned on under the Bedrock crossplay card on Ports & Network, and it needs a spare Microsoft account. See How to let console players join your Minecraft server.
