A version mismatch means the player's game and your server run different builds. Usually the game has just updated: restart the server so it takes the same update. If the server is held on an old build or another branch, change that first.
Why it happens
- The Fun Pimps released an update. Steam updated your players' games, and your server still runs the build it started with.
- Auto Update is off, so the server stays on its build.
- The server runs a test branch and the player does not, or the other way round.
- A mod on the server and the same mod on the player's game are different versions.
Fix it
- In the panel, open the Settings tab, then Game Settings, and click Show advanced.
- Check Auto Update is on. Switch it on if you are not holding a build on purpose.
- Check Beta Branch. Empty means the current release. If it names a test branch, every player needs that branch too.
- Restart the server and watch the Console download the update: How to update your 7 Days to Die server.
- Ask the player to restart the game from Steam so it finishes updating.
Mods
If the versions match and a player is still refused, compare mod versions. Update the mod on the server and on the players' games to the same version: How to add mods to your 7 Days to Die server.
Test branches
A player on the experimental branch cannot join a server on the current release, and the other way round. In Steam they right-click the game, choose Properties, and pick the branch on the Game Versions & Betas tab. To change the server's branch, see How to switch your 7 Days to Die server to the experimental branch.
