PLAY OPENARENA

OpenArena is a community-made deathmatch shooter on GPL idTech3 technology; its current release, 0.8.8, dates from February 2012. Players on Windows, Linux or macOS connect with your server's IP and port and pay nothing. We do not promise a public server-list entry, so share the address with your group.

GAMETYPES, BOTS AND .PK3 MAPS

The Settings page offers six gametypes: Free For All, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Harvester, Last Man Standing and Double Domination. The Bots field fills the match with up to 16 bots, and Restart Match reloads the map without a restart. Custom maps are .pk3 files you upload over SFTP; there is no map installer.

Do I need to own Quake III Arena?
No. OpenArena is entirely free and self-contained, with its own assets replacing every idTech3 file.
How many players can join?
Your plan's slots: 8, 16 or 32. The panel writes that number into sv_maxclients on the server's startup line and refuses anything higher; Edit Player Slots lowers it for a smaller match. The OpenArena engine itself stops at 64 clients, so the 32-slot TOURNAMENT plan sits well inside it.
Will my OpenArena server appear in the public server list?
We do not promise it. In the engine source, a server announces itself to the master list only when it starts with dedicated 2 or sv_public set, and our startup line sets neither. Treat the server as private: share its IP and port, and players connect to it directly.
How much does an OpenArena server cost at PlayNHost?
