Do players need to buy the game?

Does the server update itself?
Automatic updates are on by default. Operation: Harsh Doorstop is in active development, so this matters more than usual. You can turn it off in the panel if a community mod needs you to hold a version.
Can I edit the server configuration?
Yes. Server name is a panel field, and the rest of the configuration lives in the server's own files, which you get through the web file manager and over SFTP.
