- A fresh server. One server at a time on PlayNHost's own hardware in Germany, created from the same game definition customers get, with a 4096 MB memory limit.
- A real install. The server installs the game through the normal install process. We record how long that takes.
- Wait for running. We record how long the panel takes to report the server as running.
- Ten minutes of readings. Once running, the server's memory use is read from the panel once a minute for ten minutes, with nobody connected.
- Delete. The test server is deleted. Nothing carries over to the next game.
What the figures are
- Memory after 10 min is the last of the ten readings. Peak is the highest. They are the memory the panel reports for the whole server, which includes the game and the programs around it.
- Games at the limit. If the readings reach the test server's 4096 MB limit, the game is left out, because the number then shows the cap and not what the game needs.
- Time to running is the wait between install finishing and the panel showing running. A figure of 0 s means it was already running when we first checked.
- Install time includes downloading the game, so it depends on the game's size and the download source on the day.
What they are not
- Not player load. No players were connected and we do not publish player-load figures.
- Not a plan recommendation. A server with players, mods or a big world needs more.
- Not a quality ranking. A small number means a light idle server, nothing more.
Corrections
Games are re-measured when they change a lot. If you repeat a test and get a very different number, write to [email protected] and we will look at it.
