Avorion Server Hosting

Avorion builds ships block by block and then asks you to fly them across a procedural galaxy. A persistent server keeps that galaxy running while your alliance is offline, so mining fleets, trade routes and station upgrades are still there when the crew logs back in.

Questions

Avorion questions we get asked most. Anything else is in the knowledgebase or with support.

How much RAM does an Avorion server need?
Avorion loads sectors on demand, so memory tracks how much of the galaxy is actually being played rather than the player count alone. 4GB is comfortable for a small crew on a fresh galaxy. Once an alliance is running multiple stations and a mining fleet across several sectors, 8GB is the sensible floor, and 16GB covers a busy public galaxy.
Can I name the galaxy and set the difficulty?
Yes. Galaxy name, server name, difficulty, collision damage, save interval, whether everyone starts in the same sector, and whether the server is publicly listed are all settings in the panel. Change one, restart, and it applies.
Does the server update itself when Avorion patches?
Automatic updates are on by default. The server checks for a new build on start, so a patch day usually needs nothing more than a restart. You can turn it off if you want to hold a version, and there is a beta branch field if you want to follow one.
How do I make myself an admin?
Put your Steam64 ID in the Admin ID field in the panel and restart. That grants you in-game admin commands. There is no separate password to hand around.
How long does setup take?
Your server is created and installing the moment checkout completes. Avorion downloads through SteamCMD, so first boot is a few minutes while the game files land, then it is yours.
