Players see "You are not white-listed on this server"

You are not white-listed on this server means the whitelist is on and that player's name is not on it. Add the player on the Players page, or send them an invite link so they add themselves. If you want anyone with the address to join, turn the whitelist off instead.

On Paper, Purpur and Spigot the same message reads You are not whitelisted on this server!. The fix is the same.

Why it happens

• You chose Only players I add in the setup, or turned Whitelist on later.
• Minecraft 26.3 and newer turn the whitelist on in a new server.properties. The setup writes your own answer over it, so this mostly happens when the file is made again later, for example after it was deleted.
• The player typed their name differently, or plays Bedrock through crossplay. For a Bedrock player, send an invite link: it adds them by their Xbox gamertag.

The Play with friends card on the Overview page says The whitelist is on, so only players on it can join. when it is on.

Fix 1: add the player

1. Open your server in the panel and click Players in the left menu.
2. Open the Whitelist tab.
3. Type the player's Minecraft name and click Add.
4. The player joins again.

Fix 2: let them add themselves

On the Play with friends card, click Invite friends, create a link and send it. The friend types their name on the link page and is added. See How to invite friends to your Minecraft server with an invite link.

Fix 3: turn the whitelist off

1. Open the Settings tab and click Server Properties (Java) under Config files.
2. Switch Whitelist off.
3. Click Save & restart.

You cannot join your own server

If you are the one turned away, you are not on the whitelist either. Operators can join whatever the whitelist says, so add yourself with Fix 1, or make yourself an operator on the Operators tab: How to op yourself and manage permissions on your Minecraft server.
