Everything about how a Voyagers of Nera server plays lives in one file, separate from the server settings.
Open the file
- Stop the server. The file is rewritten on shutdown.
- In the panel open Files and go to:
BoatGame/Saved/PersistedData/CustomConfig/ - Open
CustomGameUserSettings.ini.
If the file is not there, start the server once so it is created, then stop it and look again.
The multipliers
- Gathering rate. The most common change. Doubling it turns a long grind into a comfortable weekend session.
- Enemy damage. How hard the world hits back.
- Player damage. How hard players hit.
These are multipliers, so 2.0 doubles and 0.5 halves.
The toggles
- Construction requirements. Turning these off removes the material cost of building, which suits a creative or a rebuilding server.
- Equipment durability. Turning it off stops gear wearing out.
- Drop items on death. Turning it off is the single biggest quality of life change for a casual crew.
How to change them safely
- Download the file from Files first, so you have a copy to go back to.
- Change one value at a time.
- Start the server and play for a session before changing anything else.
Changing five values at once and disliking the result means you cannot tell which one did it.
These apply to everyone
Gameplay settings are server wide. Changing a multiplier affects every player from the next start, including progress already made. Announce a change before you make it if your crew has been building around the old rules.
Apply and verify
- Save the file.
- Start the server.
- Read the panel console for a parse error, then check the change in game.
If the change did nothing, the most likely cause is that the server was running when you edited, and the shutdown write overwrote it.
