Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveUpdated Oct 11, 20263 min read

Rcon is the built in admin channel. SourceMod adds an in game menu and per person permissions on top of it.

1. Set the rcon password

  1. Stop the server and open csgo/cfg/server.cfg in the Files tab.
  2. Set rcon_password "a-long-secret".
  3. Save and start the server.

Anyone with this password owns the server. Never give it to a player.

2. Use rcon in game

  1. Join the server and open the console.
  2. Run rcon_password a-long-secret.
  3. Then use commands with the rcon prefix, such as rcon status, rcon changelevel de_mirage or rcon kick "PlayerName".

The Console tab in the Game Panel runs the same commands with no prefix and no password.

3. Install SourceMod for in game admin

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Upload the Linux builds of MetaMod:Source and SourceMod into the csgo folder, so you end up with csgo/addons/metamod and csgo/addons/sourcemod.
  3. Start the server and run meta list and sm plugins list in the console to confirm both loaded.

4. Add yourself as a SourceMod admin

  1. Run status in the console while you are connected and copy your Steam ID.
  2. Stop the server and open csgo/addons/sourcemod/configs/admins_simple.ini.
  3. Add a line such as "STEAM_1:1:12345678" "99:z".
  4. Start the server. In game, type sm_admin in chat to open the menu.

5. If admin does not work

  • Match the Steam ID format exactly as status prints it.
  • Restart the server after editing the admin file.
  • Check SourceMod is actually loaded with sm plugins list before blaming the file.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the console output if it still refuses.
