How to Fix a Wreckfest 2 Server That Will Not List or Start

Start with the panel Console. Wreckfest 2 logs its startup there, and it is the difference between fixing the problem and guessing at it.

1. The config was rejected

Wreckfest 2 parses server_config.scnf as a whole. A missing bracket, a missing quote or a stray character makes it fall back to defaults, so the server runs under a default name with default settings.

The quickest test is the server name. If your custom name is gone, the file was rejected. Restore your backup, or fix the structure and restart.

2. The port does not match

The game port in the config must match the port allocated to your server, shown on the server overview. A wrong value gives a server that starts cleanly and cannot be reached, which looks far worse than it is.

3. You edited while the server was running

The config is written back on shutdown, overwriting anything changed underneath it. Always stop, edit, start.

4. The browser filters

• Look in the community or custom server list, not quick match.
• Clear the search box and untick the filters hiding empty and password protected servers.
• Give the server a few minutes after starting before deciding it is missing.

5. After a game update

Wreckfest 2 is a young title, and its dedicated server changes between updates. A server on an old build is invisible to updated clients, and settings occasionally move or get renamed. Restart the server so it pulls the new build, then read the console for anything it now rejects.

6. The server has no event to run

A rotation entry naming a level the build does not have stops the server reaching a playable state. The console names it. Remove the entry and restart.

Back up before you experiment

Download server_config.scnf from Files before every round of changes. Restoring a known good file is a thirty second fix, and rebuilding a rotation from memory is not.
