How to Become an Admin on Your The Isle Server

The Isle admin is a Steam ID list in Game.ini. The catch is which section it goes in, because the obvious one is wrong.

Find your SteamID64

You need the 17 digit number beginning 7656119. Read it from your Steam profile URL or use a SteamID lookup site.

Add yourself, in the right section

1. Stop the server.
2. In the panel open Files and edit:

   TheIsle/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini

3. Find, or add, the game state section and put your ID there:

   [/Script/TheIsle.TIGameStateBase]
   AdminsSteamIDs=76561198000000000
   WhitelistIDs=
   VIPs=

4. Save and start the server.

Do not put these under [/Script/TheIsle.TIGameSession]. They are ignored there, with no error, and the server looks like it simply refused to make you an admin.

For several admins, repeat the key on its own line:

AdminsSteamIDs=76561198000000000
AdminsSteamIDs=76561198000000001

Whitelist and VIP

• WhitelistIDs turns the server into an allow list when whitelisting is enabled. Adding a single ID while the feature is on locks everyone else out.
• VIPs holds IDs that can join a full server ahead of the queue.

Set up RCON

RCON is the practical way to administer The Isle, because it works without being in game. In the same file:

RconEnabled=true
RconPort=PORT
RconPassword=a-long-password-here

Use the RCON_PORT value allocated to your server, shown on the server overview. Any standard RCON client can then connect for player lists, kicks, bans, announcements and saving.

The RCON password grants full control of the server. Make it long and do not share it with players.

If admin does not apply

• Check the section header above your ID. This is the cause the overwhelming majority of the time.
• The server must be restarted after the edit.
• If your change disappeared, you edited while the server was running and the shutdown write overwrote it.
• Check the ID for typos. The Isle does not report a bad Steam ID.
