How to Become an Admin on Your Necesse Server

Necesse administration is done from the server console, which the panel gives you directly. There is no in-game admin panel to log into.

The panel console is your admin tool

Open the Console section for your server in the panel. It is attached to the running server process, so anything the server accepts can be typed there. Useful commands:

• help lists everything available.
• players shows who is online.
• kick <player>
• ban <player> and unban <player>
• broadcast <message> sends a message to everyone.
• save writes the world to disk. Run it before any manual stop.
• stop saves and shuts down cleanly.

Granting admin to a player

Necesse keeps a list of players with elevated permissions. Add someone from the console with the permission command, and confirm with help if your build names it differently. The list is stored in the server's config folder, so it survives a restart.

Once granted, that player can run the same commands from in-game chat with a leading slash.

The setting to check first

In cfg/server.cfg:

giveClientsPower=false

Set to true, every connected player can change world settings. On a public server that is effectively giving everyone admin. Leave it false and grant permissions to the specific people who should have them.

Remember to stop the server before editing this file, because Necesse rewrites it on shutdown.

Bans and the ban list

Bans made from the console are written to the server's config folder and survive restarts. To review or clear them, stop the server and open the ban file in Files.

Before a restart

Always run save and then stop rather than killing the server. Necesse writes the world on a clean shutdown, and an unclean stop loses everything since the last autosave.

If a command is not recognised

• Run help in the panel console. Command names change between game versions and the list is authoritative for your build.
• Player names are case sensitive.
• The server must be running for the console to accept anything.
