Mindustry server shows as offline to players

MindustryUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

A Mindustry server that is up but appears offline is nearly always idle rather than broken.

1. No map is hosting

The server does not answer players until a game is running.

  1. Open the Console tab in the Game Panel.
  2. Run status to see whether a game is in progress.
  3. If it is idle, run maps, then host <mapname> survival.
  4. Players can connect once the console confirms the map is hosting.

This is also why a server looks fine in the panel and dead in game after a restart. Nothing rehosts on its own.

2. Wrong address or port

  • Use the IP and port from your panel, not the default 6567 unless they match.
  • Do not change the port with the config command. It is set to match your allocation.

3. Version mismatch

Mindustry refuses connections between different game versions and tells the player so. Restart the server from the panel so it updates, and ask players to update the game.

4. Mods do not match

  • Content mods must be installed on both sides.
  • Run mods in the console to see exactly what the server loads, then compare with the player's list.

5. The server keeps stopping

  • Read the console. A mod that fails to load is named there.
  • If the console shows the process being killed rather than a Java error, it ran out of memory. A very large map with many units needs more memory than a small one.
  • Remove the last mod you added and restart to test.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the last 50 lines of console output if none of this fits.
