How to Become an Admin on Your Soulmask Server

Soulmask has no admin list. Control is by password. Anyone who knows the admin password can authenticate for that session, so treat it as a root password.

Set the admin password

1. Stop the server.
2. Open your server's Startup Settings page in the panel, reachable from the server overview.
3. Set the admin password parameter, which Soulmask reads as -adminpsw.
4. Start the server.

Use a long password, and do not reuse the join password.

Authenticate in game

1. Join the server.
2. Press the tilde or backtick key to open the console.
3. Run:

   gm key YOURPASSWORD

4. The GM panel becomes available.

Admin does not persist. You have to run gm key again every time you reconnect. This catches everyone out at least once.

Using the GM panel

Once authenticated you get the admin interface for the things you actually need day to day:

• Player list with kick and ban.
• Teleporting to a player or to coordinates.
• Item and resource spawning.
• Weather and time control.
• Flight and invulnerability for inspecting builds.

Commands are case sensitive, and several use romanised Chinese keywords, so capitalisation matters and a command that looks wrong may simply be typed in the wrong case.

Administering from the panel

The panel Console section is attached to the server process, so server level output and commands are available there without being in game. Use it to watch what the server is doing while you test an admin action.

If the gm key command is refused

• The password is case sensitive and must match the startup parameter exactly.
• Confirm you set the admin password parameter and not the join password.
• The server must have been restarted after the parameter was changed.
• If it worked before and does not now, you probably reconnected. Run the command again.
