Foundry server world is missing or players cannot join

FoundryUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

Most Foundry tickets are one of these four.

1. The world is empty after a restart

The server loads the folder named by server_world_name in App.cfg. If that value changed, it created a new world and yours is still on disk.

  1. Stop the server.
  2. List the save folder in the Files tab and find the world you want.
  3. Set server_world_name back to that folder name and start the server.

2. The server is not in the browser

  • server_is_public must be true.
  • Give the list a few minutes after a start.
  • Use the Steam favourites route with IP:QueryPort, or direct connect with the game port, while you wait.

3. Players cannot join

  • Check server_max_players.
  • Confirm they are using the game port and not the query port.
  • Check the password for a stray space.
  • Restart the server after a game update so it matches the clients.

4. The factory is frozen between sessions

That is pause_server_when_empty doing its job. Set it to false if you want production to continue while nobody is online.

5. Progress was lost after a crash

  • The world is written on the autosave interval and on a clean shutdown. A hard kill costs the time since the last save.
  • Lower autosave_interval if you are losing more than you are comfortable with.
  • Always use Stop rather than Kill.

6. Settings are ignored

Stop the server before editing App.cfg. Check the setting name for typos, since anything unrecognised is skipped silently. Read the console after a start to see the values the server actually used.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the last 50 lines of console output if none of this fits.
