How to become an admin on your Enshrouded server

Enshrouded does not have an admin command or an admin list. Your role is decided by which password you type when you join.

1. Set the group passwords

1. Stop the server in the Game Panel.
2. Open enshrouded_server.json in the Files tab.
3. Find the userGroups section. There is an entry for each role, normally admin, friend and guest.
4. Set a different password on each one.
5. Save and start the server.

2. Join as an admin

1. Connect to the server with the IP and port from your panel.
2. Type the admin password when prompted.
3. You arrive with whatever permissions that group carries.

If you join with the friend password by mistake, leave and rejoin with the admin one.

3. Tune what each group can do

Each group entry carries its own permission flags, covering things like whether members can kick and ban other players, whether they can access other players' chests and whether they can change the world. Set the guest group to the smallest set of rights you are comfortable with, since that is the password most likely to spread.

4. Reserved slots

Each group can hold reserved slots. Giving the admin group at least one reserved slot means you can always get in, even when the server is full. The reserved slots count towards slotCount.

5. If the password does not work

• Check the JSON is still valid after your edit. An invalid file means the server falls back to defaults, including different passwords.
• Restart the server. The file is read at boot.
• Check for a trailing space in the password.
• Change the admin password whenever someone leaves your group, since there is no way to remove one person otherwise.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the console output if the file looks right and the password is still refused.
