How to connect to your Mumble server

Mumble and voice serversUpdated Oct 6, 20263 min read

You and your friends need the Mumble app and your server's address and port.

Find the address

  1. Open your server in the panel. The Overview page shows the Server Address, an address and a port separated by a colon, for example play.example.com:25565.
  2. Copy the address and the port separately: the part before the colon is the address, and the number after it is the port. Mumble's default port is not used here, so the port must be entered.

Connect from the Mumble app

  1. Install Mumble from mumble.info (Windows, Mac and Linux). On phones, Android has apps such as Mumla, and iPhone has Mumble.
  2. In the app, open Server, then Connect, then Add New.
  3. Enter a Label (any name), the Address, the Port and your Username, then connect.
  4. The first time, the app asks you to accept the server's certificate. Accept it.
  5. If you set a SuperUser Password, log in as SuperUser only when you want to manage the server. Everyone else uses a normal user name.

If you cannot connect

  • Check the port number. A wrong port is the most common cause.
  • Make sure the server shows Online in the panel.
  • Mumble needs the port open for both connection and voice, and both use the same number. If a school or work network blocks it, try another network.
  • If the server is full, someone must leave first. A server allows only as many people as its slots.

For setup, see How to set up your Mumble server.
