How to Change Your Palworld Server Name, Password and Settings

PalworldUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

Every Palworld server setting lives on one very long line inside one file. The formatting rules are strict, and breaking them silently reverts your settings to defaults.

Open the right file

  1. Stop the server. Palworld rewrites this file on shutdown, so edits made while running are lost.
  2. In the panel open Files and go to:
    Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini

Do not edit DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini in the game directory. That is the template, and the server does not read it once the file above exists.

The shape of the file

The file has a section header and then a single OptionSettings=(...) line containing every setting, comma separated:

[/Script/Pal.PalGameWorldSettings]
OptionSettings=(Difficulty=None,DayTimeSpeedRate=1.000000,ExpRate=1.000000,ServerName="My PlayNHost Server",ServerDescription="",AdminPassword="changeme",ServerPassword="",PublicPort=8211,bIsPvP=False,ServerPlayerMaxNum=32)

Three rules matter:

  • It must stay on one line. Do not add line breaks to make it readable.
  • No spaces after the commas.
  • Text values are in double quotes, numbers and True or False are not.

Break any of these and Palworld discards the whole line and runs on defaults.

The settings people change

  • ServerName and ServerDescription, what shows in the community list.
  • ServerPassword, empty for an open server.
  • AdminPassword, required before any admin command works. Set it to something long.
  • bIsPvP, True or False.
  • Difficulty, None for custom, which is what lets the individual rates below take effect.
  • ExpRate, PalCaptureRate, PalSpawnNumRate, CollectionDropRate, EnemyDropItemRate, all multipliers where 2.000000 is double.
  • DayTimeSpeedRate and NightTimeSpeedRate, higher values make that part of the day pass faster.
  • GuildPlayerMaxNum, guild size cap.
  • bEnableInvaderEnemy, raids on your base.

Do not touch the ports

PublicPort must match the port allocated to your server in the panel. Changing it here makes the server unreachable.

Slots

Your plan's slot count is applied through the MAX_PLAYERS variable on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview. ServerPlayerMaxNum in the INI does not add slots on its own. Palworld also becomes noticeably unstable at high player counts regardless of hardware, which is a limitation of the game.

Apply the changes

Save the file and start the server. Join and check one visible setting, such as the server name, to confirm the line was accepted. If the name is back to the default, the line formatting is wrong.
