Panneau de jeuA Myth of Empires server that comes back empty has usually not lost anything. The save is still on disk and the server is looking in the wrong place for it.
1. Check the server ID
Myth of Empires saves worlds against the server ID in the configuration. Change the ID and the server finds no save for it, so it creates a new empty world. The old one is untouched.
- Stop the server.
- Open
MOE/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.iniin Files. - Set the server ID back to the value it had before.
- Start the server.
If you do not know the old value, look in the save folder. Each ID has its own directory, and the modified dates tell you which one was in use.
2. Check the config was not overwritten
The server rewrites its config on shutdown. If you edited the file while the server was running, your change was lost and the server may have gone back to a default ID. Always stop, edit, start.
3. Check the server actually saved
The world is written on the save interval and on a clean shutdown. Killing the process loses everything since the last save. Use the panel's Stop and wait for the server to report it is offline.
4. Look at what is on disk
In the panel open Files and browse the save directory. Compare folder sizes and modified times. A large, recently modified folder is your real world, and a small new one is what the server just created.
Back up properly
- Stop the server so the world is fully written.
- In Files, download the save folder and the config folder.
Do this before changing the server ID, before a game update and before any settings experiment. A downloaded copy is the only backup that survives a mistake on the server.
Other things that look like data loss
- Structures gone, characters intact. Check the decay settings in the config. Long offline periods with aggressive decay remove buildings legitimately.
- Everything reset after an update. Confirm the server ID first. An update rarely invalidates a save on its own.
What to send support
Open a ticket with the server ID you expect, a listing of the save folder, and the last hundred lines of console output from the start where the world went missing.
