How to Change Your Myth of Empires Server Name and Settings

Myth of Empires keeps its settings in a Unreal Engine style INI file. The server writes it on first boot, so let the server run once before you edit anything.

Open the file

1. Start the server once, let it finish loading, then stop it.
2. In the panel open Files and go to:

   MOE/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini

   The folder is named WindowsServer regardless of the host operating system, which is normal for this game.

Stop the server before editing. The config is written back on shutdown, so an edit made while it runs is silently lost.

The settings that matter

• Server name, what appears in the custom server list.
• Server password, empty for an open server.
• Server ID, which is how the save is identified. Do not change this on a running world. A different ID means the server looks for a save that does not exist and starts fresh.
• GM account list, the Steam IDs that get admin. See our guide on becoming an admin.
• Rate multipliers for harvesting, experience, taming and crafting, plus decay and structure rules.

Search the file for the setting name rather than scrolling. Every option is spelled out in full.

Slots

Your plan's slot count is applied through the MAX_PLAYERS variable on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview. Raising the player limit in the INI alone does not add slots. Upgrade the plan in the billing area to run more players.

Do not change the ports

The port values must match the ones allocated to your server, shown on the server overview. Changing them here makes the server unreachable even though it starts normally.

Apply and verify

1. Save the file.
2. Start the server.
3. Check the name in the custom server list. If it reverted, the file was overwritten because the server was running when you edited it.

Back up first

Before a round of changes, download the config folder and the save folder from Files. Together they let you restore the server exactly as it was.
