How to set a join password on your Mumble server

By default anyone who has your server's address can connect. A join password stops that. Players enter it once, and Mumble remembers it in their saved server.

Set it

1. Open your server in the panel and click Settings, then Game Settings.
2. Fill in Join Password. Letters, numbers, dot, dash and underscore only, up to 64 characters.
3. Restart the server so the change applies. See How to start, stop, restart and force-stop your server.

To remove the password, empty the field and restart.

What players do

When they connect, Mumble asks for the server password. They type it once and can tick the option to remember it in their favourites. See How to connect to your Mumble server.

This is not the admin password

• Join Password: lets people into the server.
• SuperUser Password: gives full control of the server. Never share it. See How to become admin on your Mumble server.

Good to know

• Anyone who already knows the password can pass it on. Change it if it leaks; everyone then needs the new one.
• A password does not stop someone who is already connected. Restarting disconnects everyone, and they must enter the new password to come back.
